Milwaukee Brewersspace announced on July 8 that Brandon Woodruff had a new injury to his right shoulder after a brief start against Arizona. MRI scans revealed damage to his anterior capsule, the same structure that required surgery in 2023. The team plans to send him to Dr. Keith Meister for a second opinion after the initial diagnosis of inflammation.

The 33‑year‑old left the mound in the fourth inning of his third start since returning from an IL stint that lasted almost two months following minor cyst removal. Woodruff’s season ERA stands at 2.98 across nine starts, and he did not pitch in 2024. He resumed play midway through last season, performing well until a lat strain sidelined him from the playoffs.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy noted that Woodruff was “so good when he was pitching” and that the pitcher is trying to stay positive. The injury threatens the Brewers’ rotation depth as the team heads into the final stretch. Woodruff’s recovery will be critical for the club’s playoff push, as the loss of a reliable starter could force the Brewers to rely on less experienced arms.
