Philadelphia ace Zack Wheeler is set to rejoin the rotation on Saturday in Atlanta after a lengthy layoff. A blood clot discovered near his right shoulder in August forced thoracic outlet surgery and an eight‑month absence. Wheeler finished a five‑game rehab stint in Double‑A Reading, throwing 77 pitches, and also pitched in Triple‑A Lehigh Valley for the team again soon.

Manager Rob Thomson said Wheeler will likely throw six innings with about 90 pitches, signalling the end of spring‑training limits. The Phillies, mired in an eight‑game slide and sitting 8‑14, could see a much‑needed spark. Thomson added that Wheeler’s presence elevates the roster, noting he is "one of the best in the National League." for the season ahead now immediately.

Wheeler's last outing on Aug. 15 saw him exit after five innings, leaving him 10‑5 with a 2.71 ERA in his sixth season. Over 11 seasons, he boasts a 113‑75 record and a 3.28 ERA for Philadelphia and the Mets. His return could shift the Phillies’ trajectory, offering a steadier arm as they chase playoff hopes rest of the season.
