The Boston Red Sox placed Masataka Yoshida on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a left hamstring strain. The 33-year-old designated hitter suffered the injury in the third inning of Saturday's win over the Pittsburgh Pirates when he limped noticeably running to second base on a double.

Yoshida indicated his previous hamstring injury in Japan sidelined him for roughly a month, though the Red Sox have not provided a formal timeline. He will undergo further testing when Boston returns home to begin a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday.

The club also placed right-hander Justin Slaten on the 15-day IL due to right elbow inflammation. Slaten is 2-4 with a 4.60 ERA across 36 appearances this season. To fill the roster spots, Boston recalled catcher Mickey Gasper and left-hander Raymond Burgos from Triple-A Worcester.

Yoshida is batting .274 with five home runs and 28 RBIs in his fourth season with the Red Sox, serving almost exclusively as the team's designated hitter.
