Colorado Rockies first baseman TJ Rumfield left Monday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers after being struck by a pitch from Emmet Sheehan in the first inning. Initial examination allowed Rumfield to take first base, but he exited the game in the bottom of the inning with a right hand contusion. Edouard Julien replaced him at first base.

Rumfield's injury comes during a standout rookie campaign where he leads the Rockies and ranks second among all rookies with 54 hits. His .284 batting average tops qualified rookies, while his 27 RBI and 17 extra-base hits both rank among the league leaders. Over his last 29 games since April 22, Rumfield has posted a .315 average with 12 extra-base hits and 16 RBI.

The Rockies also placed starting left-hander Jose Quintana on the 15-day injured list due to a left elbow sprain. Quintana exited Sunday's start against Arizona in the second inning after experiencing elbow discomfort. These dual injuries create significant depth concerns for Colorado's roster as they navigate a challenging stretch in the season.

Losing both a productive rookie bat and a veteran starter within 24 hours severely impacts the Rockies' lineup flexibility and pitching rotation stability heading into crucial divisional matchups.
