Rockies' Freeland Hits IL with Shoulder Injury

The Colorado Rockies have placed left-hander Kyle Freeland on the 15-day injured list with shoulder inflammation, a setback that comes just as the 32-year-old was building momentum in 2025. Freeland, who was scratched from his last scheduled start due to shoulder soreness, had been performing well with a 1-1 record and 2.30 ERA through three starts this season.

The injury is retroactive to Monday, meaning Freeland will miss at least two weeks of action. The Rockies' rotation depth will be tested as they navigate this latest challenge. Freeland, turning 33 next month, has been a cornerstone of Colorado's pitching staff since his breakout 2018 season when he posted a 2.85 ERA and finished fourth in National League Cy Young voting.

To fill Freeland's roster spot, the Rockies reinstated left-hander Jose Quintana from the injured list. Quintana, recovering from a hamstring injury that limited him to just one start this season, is scheduled to start Wednesday night against the Houston Astros. This marks Quintana's return to the rotation after spending time on the injured list earlier in the season.
