Manager Warren Schaeffer noted that Freeland felt better by Thursday, but a subsequent bullpen session went poorly, prompting the IL move, which was made retroactive to Friday.

Despite his injury, Freeland leads the team in strikeouts (103) and innings pitched (124 1/3) with a 4-10 record and 6.37 ERA in 23 starts. To fill the roster spot, the Rockies selected right-hander Blake Adams from Triple-A Albuquerque, where he posted a 2-5 record and 8.10 ERA in 17 games.
