The Colorado Rockies have agreed to a two-year, $12.8 million contract with utilityman Willi Castro, sources told ESPN. This marks the second major-league signing under new president of baseball operations Paul DePodesta. Castro follows right-hander Michael Lorenzen, who joined the Rockies' rotation earlier this offseason.

Castro is likely to start at third base for Colorado, but his value lies in his versatility. He has extensive experience at shortstop, second base, and all three outfield positions. After a standout 2023-2024 with the Minnesota Twins, he regressed significantly following a trade to the Chicago Cubs last season, posting a .170 average.

The Rockies, who won just 43 games last year, are attempting to rebuild their roster. Castro's signing provides a veteran presence and defensive flexibility for a team that desperately needs both. His performance will be closely watched as he transitions to a new environment in the National League West.
