The Cincinnati Reds placed reserve catcher Jose Trevino on the 10-day injured list Wednesday due to a thoracic spine strain. Trevino, 33, has seen limited action this season, appearing in just three of Cincinnati's first 11 games as backup to regular Tyler Stephenson. The injury first appeared during spring training, according to manager Terry Francona.

Francona explained Trevino's condition worsens when he catches, requiring further testing in Cincinnati on Thursday. The Reds recalled catcher-infielder P.J. Higgins from Triple-A Louisville to replace Trevino on the roster. To create a 40-man roster spot for Higgins, Cincinnati designated infielder Christian Encarnacion-Strand for assignment.

Encarnacion-Strand, acquired from Minnesota in 2023, hit 13 homers with an .805 OPS over 63 games that season. However, the 24-year-old struggled with injuries and production the following two years, beginning this season in Louisville. The roster shuffle leaves the Reds with depth concerns behind Stephenson while Trevino recovers.
