Reds' Dane Myers injured after outfield wall collision vs Brewers

Cincinnati Reds center fielder Dane Myers left Monday's game against Milwaukee on a cart in the fourth inning after crashing into the outfield wall while making a spectacular backhanded catch. Myers held onto Andrew Vaughn's drive for the out, keeping the Reds ahead 1-0, but appeared to injure his left shoulder on the play.

The injury occurred immediately after Myers provided the Reds' only run with a two-out RBI double in the first inning. Entering the game with a .252 batting average, Myers' exit created an immediate roster challenge for Cincinnati's depleted outfield.

TJ Friedl replaced Myers in center field, marking Friedl's return from Triple-A Louisville where he was hitting .179 in 47 games. The Reds had just recalled Friedl on Sunday after placing outfielder Blake Dunn on the injured list with a right elbow strain.

Losing Myers compounds Cincinnati's outfield injury problems at a critical point in the season. The team now faces decisions about their outfield depth while trying to maintain their offensive production in a tightly contested division race.
