Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker visited rookie reliever Carter Baumler on the mound during Monday night's spring training game to inform him he made the Opening Day roster. Baumler, a 24-year-old right-hander, had retired the first two Kansas City Royals batters in the fifth inning when Schumaker, catcher Danny Jansen, and all four infielders joined him. Baumler expressed surprise, thinking he was being taken out of the game.

The news came after Baumler allowed just one earned run and struck out ten batters over nine innings in eight spring training games. Baumler hugged Schumaker in the dugout and received high fives from teammates. Baumler, selected by the Orioles in the fifth round of the 2020 draft, underwent Tommy John surgery after high school and pitched in their organization until being left off the 40-man roster last fall.

He was selected by the Pirates in the first round of the December Rule 5 draft and traded to Texas the same day.
