Pete Fairbanks departed the Miami Marlins' 4-2 loss to the Boston Red Sox after facing one batter due to nerve irritation in his throwing arm. The closer started the ninth inning but left after issuing a leadoff walk to Mickey Gasper. Fairbanks touched his arm and discussed the issue with catcher Brian Navarreto and manager Clayton Mc Cullough.

This setback follows similar discomfort experienced on April 27 against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which sidelined him for three weeks. Fairbanks described the sensation as compounding throughout the entire arm rather than isolated finger numbness. The 32-year-old, who signed a one-year deal with Miami after seven seasons with the Tampa Bay Rays, has appeared in 44 games and holds 18 saves.

He took the loss Monday and carries a 6.02 ERA. Fairbanks will undergo additional tests Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury and his return timeline.
