Mookie Betts Placed on IL with Oblique Strain, Dodgers Recall Kim

Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Mookie Betts has been placed on the injured list with a strained right oblique, sidelining him for four to six weeks according to manager Dave Roberts.

Betts left Saturday's 10-5 win over Washington after the first inning complaining of lower back pain. An MRI revealed the injury was actually to his oblique, which Roberts believes Betts suffered on a checked swing during his at-bat. The 33-year-old, batting .179 with two homers and seven RBIs this season, was starting shortstop and batting third when he drew a walk before being replaced by Miguel Rojas.

To fill Betts' roster spot, the Dodgers recalled infielder Hyeseong Kim from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Betts' absence comes after a 2025 season where he played 150 games, including a crucial 6-3-2 double play in Game 7 of the World Series. His current injury leaves the Dodgers' infield depth in question as they navigate the remainder of the season.
