Dodgers' Hernández suffers oblique setback

Kiké Hernández is likely headed to the injured list with a strained left oblique, just two days into his season debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The 34-year-old utility player homered in his first at-bat Tuesday night and doubled in his second before leaving a 15-6 win over Colorado after his fourth-inning at-bat.

Hernández was off to a hot start after sitting out the first 53 games while rehabbing from left elbow surgery. He went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a homer in his first two games. He acknowledged he tweaked his oblique during batting practice Monday but initially thought it was just weird tightness, saying, "I was embarrassed because it didn't even happen in the game."

Manager Dave Roberts called the injury "a bummer" but noted it's not season-ending. The pain worsened when Hernández ran after hitting a double, prompting him to exit. Teammate Mookie Betts missed 36 days with a similar oblique strain earlier this season. Hernández currently feels "defeated" while awaiting further evaluation.
