Washington Nationals and veteran pitcher Miles Mikolas agreed to a $2.25 million, one-year contract, adding a proven starter to the young team's rotation as spring training begins. The 37-year-old All-Star, a two-time winner of the NL Cy Young Award, brings significant experience to a club actively rebuilding. The move follows the Nationals' trade of All-Star starter MacKenzie Gore to Texas for prospects, signaling a deliberate shift towards developing younger arms.

Mikolas, who made 130 starts since 2022, will compete for a rotation spot alongside other young arms like Jake Irvin and Mitchell Parker entering camp. His 2025 season with St. Louis saw him post a 4.84 ERA over 11 starts, though he remains one of the league's most durable starters, having made at least 31 starts in each of the last four seasons.
