Mets lose right‑hander Scott to hip injury, rotation in crisis

Christian Scott was placed on the 10‑day injured list Monday with a right hip impingement, ending his latest start for the New York Mets. The 27‑year‑old right‑hander had posted a 3.10 ERA over nine appearances, surrendering four runs in 4 2/3 innings against St. Louis Thursday. He had been slated to face Cincinnati Tuesday.

Scott joins a rotation already depleted by injuries to Clay Holmes (fibula) and Kodai Senga (back). Holmes won’t return until August, while Senga hopes to rejoin after a minor‑league rehab start. The Mets also optioned Daniel Duarte to Triple‑A Syracuse, promoted Tobias Myers and Jonathan Pintaro, and claimed infielder Zack Short off waivers.

New York entered the move sitting 32-39 and last in the NL East despite a recent series win over the Braves. The club now embarks on a six‑game road swing, opening with three games in Cincinnati before heading to Philadelphia. The added depth will be tested as the Mets chase a playoff spot from the bottom of the division.

Meanwhile, David Peterson continues to falter, posting a 5.75 ERA over 61 innings, underscoring the urgency for reliable starters. With three rotation arms on the IL, the Mets must rely on recent call‑ups Myers and Pintaro to stabilize the staff. Their performance this week could dictate whether New York remains mired in last place or claws upward.
