New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor expressed strong confidence about returning for Opening Day after undergoing surgery on his left hamate bone. The two-time All-Star participated in a minor league game Tuesday, playing four innings in the field but not taking any at-bats. Lindor had the procedure on Feb. 11 and was initially expected to miss at least six weeks.

Despite being able to take swings in an indoor batting cage since the surgery, Lindor acknowledged the challenges of regaining full power at the plate. Hitters who have undergone similar procedures often report that their typical power takes months, not weeks, to fully resurface. The Mets open their season March 26 against the Pittsburgh Pirates at home, and Lindor's availability could significantly impact their lineup.

The 32-year-old has demonstrated remarkable durability throughout his career, playing in at least 160 games in three of the past four seasons. Lindor has not landed on the injured list since 2021 despite dealing with various ailments. His return would bolster a Mets team looking to build on their 2024 campaign, where he led the majors with 732 plate appearances while hitting .267 with 31 home runs and 31 steals.
