The New York Mets erupted for a historic 10-run 12th inning to defeat the Washington Nationals 16-7 on Monday. Carson Benge delivered the key blows with an RBI single and two-run double during the outburst. The Mets, fresh off a Subway Series win against the Yankees, have now won six of seven games, with three coming in extras.

This victory marks the first time a National League team has scored at least 10 runs in an extra inning since the 1919 Cincinnati Reds. The Mets improved to 6-4 in extra-inning games this season, the most among all major league teams. Washington committed four errors and left 19 runners on base before falling apart in the decisive 12th frame.

New York continues its climb out of last place in the National League East. Bo Bichette and Brett Baty homered for the Mets, who led 5-3 before the Nationals tied it in the seventh and eighth. The Mets will look to continue their surge when they face Washington again on Tuesday night.
