New York Mets outfielder Luis Robert Jr. has been activated from the injured list after missing nearly three months with a lumbar spine disk herniation. The move was announced before Monday's series opener at Milwaukee. The Mets optioned infielder Eric Wagaman to Triple-A Syracuse and outrighted infielder Zack Short to Syracuse.

Robert, 28, last played on April 26 and was in the starting lineup Monday playing center field and batting seventh against All-Star Jacob Misiorowski. Interim manager Andy Green said Robert will be part of the outfield mix, likely playing two out of three days initially. His return adds depth; A.J. Ewing, who filled in at center, started in right field while five-time All-Star Juan Soto played left.

Green indicated Robert will primarily play center field rather than shifting positions. The Mets acquired Robert in a January trade sending infielder Luisangel Acuña and minor league pitcher Truman Pauley to the Chicago White Sox. Before the injury, the 2023 All-Star batted .224 with a .327 on-base percentage, two homers, eight RBIs, and two steals in 24 games.
