Marlins Lose Janson Junk to 15-Day IL, Depth Crisis Intensifies

Miami Marlins lost another arm when right‑hander Janson Junk was placed on the 15‑day IL with right shin inflammation. Junk, 30, had felt the discomfort since May 9 and was slated to start the final game of the Mets series. The injury forces the club to shuffle its rotation ahead of the next series.

Marlins skipper Clayton McCullough said the pitcher will likely be out two to three weeks to let the inflammation clear. Josh White, 4‑0 with a 1.33 ERA in Triple‑A, was called up to replace Junk and may debut in the bullpen. The move keeps the roster open for options for the upcoming double‑header in June.

Junk becomes the third Marlins starter to hit the IL in a week, following Eury Pérez’s right‑gracilis strain and left‑hander Andrew Nardi’s rib‑cage reaction. Robby Snelling’s Tommy John surgery earlier in May compounded the depth crisis. McCullough notes that Thursday and June 8 off days will help the rotation recover before the next series.

The injury streak tests Miami’s bullpen depth and forces manager McCullough to rely on openers and bullpen games. With three starters sidelined, the team must navigate a congested schedule while keeping pitchers healthy. The Marlins’ ability to adapt will define their competitiveness through the remainder of the season.
