The incident occurred in the first inning as Rodriguez was attempting to advance on a ground ball. He remained in the game briefly before being removed, showing visible discomfort as he slid into third base.

Manager Dan Wilson emphasized the team's cautious approach to head injuries, calling it a "tough break" but acknowledging the Mariners have experience managing similar situations. Wilson's comments reflect the organization's prioritization of player safety over immediate roster needs. The timing proves particularly challenging as Rodriguez has been a consistent presence in Seattle's lineup this season.

Before the injury, Rodriguez had played in 87 games, batting .259 with 15 doubles, 14 home runs, 40 RBI and 12 stolen bases. Victor Robles started in center field Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays, taking over the position after replacing Rodriguez in Thursday's game. Robles will need to provide stability in the outfield while Rodriguez recovers.

To fill the roster spot, the Mariners selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Miles Mastrobuoni from Triple-A Tacoma. Mastrobuoni, originally designated for assignment on June 19, has appeared in eight games this season with a .217 average in 21 at-bats. His call-up provides organizational depth during Rodriguez's absence.
