Eovaldi back in bullpen, Rangers eye rotation health

Texas Rangers right‑hander Nathan Eovaldi threw a 25‑pitch bullpen session Wednesday, saying he felt good after being scratched from his start because of left‑side tightness. He first noticed a mild strain while throwing catch on Sunday and consulted trainers the next morning, prompting the team to pull him from the opener against Arizona. The pitcher hopes to return to the rotation soon.

Manager Skip Schumaker welcomed the news, noting that both Eovaldi and right fielder Brandon Nimmo avoided injury setbacks. Nimmo missed the series finale after spraining his left ankle in a 7‑4 win, but rejoined the lineup, giving the Rangers two healthy starters. Schumaker said the high‑intensity session “came out good” and will be discussed with medical staff before confirming a start.

Eovaldi, now 4-4 with a 4.15 ERA, expects to pitch again on Sunday, the next regular turn in the rotation. He has recovered from similar stiffness during spring training with only a few days off. The Rangers have Thursday off before opening a three‑game series in Houston, positioning the club to solidify its starting rotation ahead of a crucial road swing.
