Dodgers Pitchers Glasnow Setback, Snell NanoScope Surgery Update

The Los Angeles Dodgers received mixed pitching news Monday as Tyler Glasnow suffered a setback in his recovery while Blake Snell prepares for a specialized procedure. Glasnow, placed on the injured list May 8 with back spasms, has been shut down from his throwing program after experiencing a flare-up, leaving his timeline uncertain despite no long-term concerns.

Snell will undergo the NanoScope procedure to address loose bodies in his pitching elbow, the same surgery that Detroit Tigers' Tarik Skubal successfully recovered from earlier this month. This minimally invasive technique, performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache, could reduce recovery time from the typical two-to-four months to approximately half that duration. Skubal began playing catch just one week after his May 6 surgery and is targeting a June return.

With both starters sidelined, the Dodgers acquired left-hander Eric Lauer from Toronto to help maintain their six-man rotation. Lauer, who posted a 6.69 ERA in 36⅓ innings this season, provides depth while preserving the preferred schedule for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Roki Sasaki and Shohei Ohtani. The team believes Lauer's velocity can be restored to last year's effective levels.

Gomes emphasized balancing short-term needs with long-term organizational health, stating they won't panic despite the injuries mounting. The Dodgers' pitching depth will face its first major test as they open a crucial series against the San Diego Padres.
