Corbin Carroll will undergo surgery Wednesday after breaking the hamate bone in his right hand during batting practice, sources told ESPN. The Arizona Diamondbacks star outfielder, a two-time All-Star and 2023 NL Rookie of the Year, will miss the World Baseball Classic and faces uncertainty for Opening Day.

Carroll joins Jackson Holliday and Francisco Lindor among early spring training hamate injuries. Holliday will have surgery Thursday and miss Opening Day, while Lindor weighs surgical options. The injury occurred during live batting practice Tuesday, forcing Carroll out of Team USA's WBC roster that already lacked depth with only three outfielders.

Expected to miss four to six weeks, Carroll's power typically takes months to fully return post-injury. Last season, the 25-year-old hit .259/.343/.541 with 31 home runs and 32 stolen bases, becoming Arizona's first 30/30 club member. His absence creates a significant hole for a Diamondbacks team that finished fourth in the NL West at 80-82. With Carroll, Ketel Marte, and Geraldo Perdomo all signed through 2030, Arizona had built one of baseball's strongest young cores.
