J.P. Crawford left Seattle’s lineup late Wednesday after reporting right triceps soreness, but the veteran still fielded grounders at third before the game. Seattle beat the Chicago White Sox 5‑4, giving the Mariners a modest boost in the AL West race. Crawford, a 31‑year‑old who has logged 895 games at shortstop for Seattle, said he’s open to a permanent move to third base to help the club.

General manager Justin Hollander plans rookie Colt Emerson to start his major‑league career at third, freeing Crawford to remain at shortstop if needed. Crawford hasn’t played the corner since 2018 with the Phillies, yet he welcomed the discussion, noting he wants to “pay forward” mentorship from Kyle Seager and Dee Strange‑Gordon. Emerson’s first home run sparked a locker‑room celebration led by Crawford.

Seattle also recalled right‑hander Matt Brash from the injured list, where he missed nearly a month with right lat inflammation. In 12⅓ innings this season Brash posted a 0.00 ERA, two wins and ten strikeouts, reaffirming his role as the bullpen’s most reliable arm. With Crawford’s flexibility and Brash back in the rotation, the Mariners solidify depth as they chase a postseason berth.
