Washington Nationals pitcher Cade Cavalli will serve a five-game suspension following his role in a brawl at Boston, a reduction from the original seven-game ban. Major League Baseball announced the decision Monday. Cavalli's involvement stemmed from an incident in the fourth inning of the Nationals' 8-1 victory, where he exchanged words with Boston's Willson Contreras after striking him out.

Both benches cleared during the altercation, though Cavalli remained in the game and delivered a strong performance, striking out 13 batters over seven innings while allowing only one run. He currently holds a 5-4 record with a 3.88 ERA through 19 starts this season.

The suspension began Monday, and Cavalli is set to return Sunday against the New York Yankees, the Nationals' final game before the All-Star break. Contreras also received a seven-game suspension, while teammates Miles Mikolas and Nate Eaton faced shorter bans.
