Braves' Profar Suspended 162 Games for PED Violation

Atlanta Braves designated hitter Jurickson Profar faces a 162-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing drug for the second time in the last year, sources told ESPN on Tuesday. The suspension will cost Profar his entire $15 million salary for the 2025 season and make him ineligible for the postseason and World Baseball Classic.

This marks the sixth 162-game ban for PED use since Major League Baseball increased penalties for repeat offenders in 2014. Profar, who signed a three-year, $42 million contract with Atlanta last January after a career year with the Padres, had already served an 80-game suspension earlier this season for human chorionic gonadotropin. Following that suspension, he hit .245/.353/.434 with 14 home runs and 43 RBIs while playing left field.

The loss compounds Atlanta's challenges as they try to rebound from a 76-86 season. The Braves have already lost starting pitchers Spencer Schwellenbach and Hurston Waldrep to elbow injuries. While Atlanta has lineup depth with players like Sean Murphy and Drake Baldwin, Profar's absence puts increased pressure on stars like Matt Olson, Austin Riley, and Ronald Acuna Jr. to carry the offense.
