The WNBA acknowledged the post "missed the mark" and stated that players are annually trained on policies prohibiting betting on WNBA games. A spokesperson confirmed the matter was addressed internally and will be used to reemphasize that even joking conversations about wagering can have negative consequences.

The wager involved Angel Reese holding $400 and a discussion about who would owe whom if their teams lost. Bueckers' Dallas Wings and Reese's Atlanta Dream have not commented. Betting on WNBA games is prohibited by the league's collective bargaining agreement, with violations potentially leading to fines, suspension, or dismissal.
