Brondello was suspended one game for referring to Reese as a "protected species" while addressing officials after Nyara Sabally's injury.

Brondello, from Australia, explained the phrase is common in Australian sports to express frustration over officiating but acknowledged its derogatory history toward Black people in America. She apologized on X and reached out to Dream GM Dan Padover, saying she's "not racist" and wants to be "part of the solution."

Reese, headed to her third All-Star Game, said she's grateful for league action and emphasized using her platform: "If you want change, you have to speak on it." The WNBA expects all staff to "uphold the highest standards of professionalism and respect." Brondello serves her suspension Monday against the Las Vegas Aces.
