Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova received a four-year suspension after refusing an anti-doping test in December. The International Tennis Integrity Agency announced the ban, which runs through June 21, 2030, following an independent tribunal decision. Vondrousova cited mental stress and fear when a testing agent visited her home without proper identification.

The 26-year-old Czech player, who captured Wimbledon in 2023 and reached world No. 6, explained on Instagram that months of physical and mental stress led to her breaking point. Her refusal came despite not being charged with taking banned substances, but rather for declining to provide a sample when requested by anti-doping officials.

Vondrousova joins other high-profile tennis players in recent doping controversies, including Jannik Sinner, Iga Swiatek, and Simona Halep. The suspension prevents her from competing as Wimbledon begins next week, ending her participation in the tournament she won three years ago. She retains the right to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Switzerland.

The timing creates a significant void in women's tennis heading into the grass-court major, where Vondrousova would have been a notable presence despite her recent struggles with form and injury.
