USC and Notre Dame will resume their storied football rivalry starting in 2030 with a four-game series, featuring back-to-back season openers. The matchup, which began in 1926, has been played 95 times, with notable breaks during World War II and the COVID-19 pandemic.

The future of the series was uncertain after last season's game, with USC expressing concerns about playing Notre Dame late in the season, which could impact their College Football Playoff chances, especially after joining the Big Ten Conference. Both programs had struggled to reach an agreement to continue the rivalry.

"USC's historic rivalry with Notre Dame holds a special place in the history of college football, and we are happy to resume a series that means so much to the entire Trojan Family," stated USC athletic director Jen Cohen. The series will move to earlier in the season, a key factor for USC head coach Lincoln Riley. "We're part of a conference. You know, we have a conference schedule to answer them to," Riley explained, emphasizing the need for the game to fit USC's Big Ten schedule and team travel considerations. The first game of the renewed series will be in Los Angeles in Week 1 of 2030, followed by a Week 1 game in South Bend in 2031, with subsequent games played within the first three weeks of the season.
