Illinois and coach Brad Underwood have agreed to new financial terms on his six‑year contract that runs through the 2031‑32 season, with a possible extension to 2035‑36 depending on performance. Athletic director Josh Whitman revealed the deal after the Illini’s first Final Four appearance in 21 years. Contract details remain confidential, pending trustee approval for the program's future.

The Illini finished 29‑8 overall, tying for second in the Big Ten with a 15‑5 mark, and knocked off each of their first four NCAA tournament opponents by double digits before falling 71‑62 to UConn in the national semifinals. Underwood’s record of 193‑110 over nine seasons includes six straight NCAA appearances and solidifies his legacy at the university.

Whitman praised Underwood’s leadership, noting the program’s rise to a national premier status and the revival of a passionate fanbase. Underwood expressed renewed motivation to chase a championship, stating, “We have more to achieve.” The new terms reinforce Illinois’s commitment to sustaining competitive success and keeping the team among the country’s elite for the coming seasons and beyond.
