UConn earned the No. 1 overall seed in the women's NCAA tournament as the defending champions aim for their 13th national title and a second consecutive championship. The Huskies enter March Madness undefeated at 34-0 and need six more victories to complete the seventh perfect season in program history. Sarah Strong and Azzi Fudd lead the Huskies, who open against 16th-seeded UTSA.

UCLA, Texas, and South Carolina joined UConn as No. 1 seeds, with the Bruins boasting a 31-1 record and 25-game winning streak. UCLA's lone loss came against Texas on a neutral court, and the team features center Lauren Betts leading an experienced group. The Bruins are seeking the first women's national championship for the Big Ten Conference since 1999, with 12 Big Ten teams making the tournament field.

Texas earned its No. 1 seed after winning the SEC tournament, including victories over South Carolina in two of three meetings this season. The Gamecocks, seeded No. 1 in Sacramento, have now earned a top seed for six consecutive seasons. Tennessee maintained its streak of appearing in every NCAA tournament since 1982 despite entering as a 10th seed with only 16 wins, the fewest for an at-large team since 2018.
