Tennessee Basketball Roster Crisis: Two Stars Depart

Tennessee's women's basketball program faces a catastrophic roster collapse after guard Jaida Civil entered the transfer portal and top recruit Oliviyah Edwards requested release from her national letter of intent. The Lady Volunteers now have just one player, Gabby Minus, confirmed for next season as every player with remaining eligibility seeks transfers.

The turmoil follows a disastrous 16-14 season under second-year coach Kim Caldwell, ending with an eight-game losing streak and a first-round NCAA tournament exit. Tennessee, preseason AP top-10, lost seven games by at least 15 points - the most in 40 years - including a 30-point blowout to UConn. The program's recruiting class drops from No. 10 nationally to outside the top 25.

Edwards, the No. 2 recruit in the SC Next 100 class of 2026, had signed with Tennessee over offers from USC, South Carolina, LSU, Florida and Washington. Her mother stated the decision came after evaluating "all the current changes" to the team. Caldwell must now rebuild her third roster in Knoxville through the transfer portal.
