NC State quarterback CJ Bailey enters his third season as a starter with significant buzz after standing out at the Manning Passing Academy. At 6-foot-6 and 220 pounds, the junior has filled out physically since arriving at 195 pounds. Coach Dave Doeren told ESPN, "I think he could be the best in the country."

Bailey is coming off an 8-5 season with 25 touchdown passes, six rushing scores, and a 68.8% completion rate (third in the ACC). His 22 career starts rank fifth among power conference quarterbacks at the same school. NC State hasn't had a first-round quarterback since Philip Rivers in 2004, and Bailey's trajectory could end that drought.

Despite transfer portal overtures, Bailey remained loyal to Raleigh, citing relationships with coaches who developed him. Key departures include tailback Hollywood Smothers (Texas), receiver Noah Rogers (Alabama), and receiver Terrell Anderson (USC). Doeren said he's "reframed" departures as opportunities to develop new talent.

Bailey already ranks seventh in career touchdowns responsible for (53), eighth in passing yards (5,518), and eighth in touchdown passes (42). He's unfazed by roster turnover: "Now we're just moving on... I'm ready to pour all into them."
