After making a birdie putt on the 10th hole in the final round of the 3M Open, Lucas Glover removed his shoes and walked in socks to retrieve his ball from the cup, sparking controversy over metal spikes and green marks.

Glover posted on Instagram, noting that for 23 years he has worn spikes and that this was the first complaint he ever received. He stated he was not protesting Aim Point but simply avoiding extra marks around the hole.

Another player, Michael Kim, confirmed that officials told him the issue was with a metal‑spiked golfer, and that spike marks can be tapped down under current rules. Glover added that many others in his group also wore spikes.

He expressed frustration that the incident diverted attention from rookie Jackson Koivun, who beat world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler to win on the tour. Glover will compete next week at the Rocket Classic in Detroit, still wearing metal spikes.
