Scottie Scheffler bounced back from his poor putting at The Open to card a six-under 65 at the 3M Open, leaving him three shots off the lead. Ben Kohles leads after a sensational eagle on the last for a 62.

Emiliano Grillo, Jackson Koivun and Gary Woodland sit one shot ahead of Scheffler at seven under. The world No 1 started slowly on the back nine at TPC Twin Cities but found momentum with birdies on the 1st, 4th, 6th and 7th holes, ranking second in strokes gained putting.

Scheffler attributed his improvement to "fresh greens" being easier than links surfaces. "I felt like I was just on the wrong end of that last week," he said. He added that predicting good putting days is impossible: "Some days you're hitting your lines... other days it feels like you're doing the same thing and it kind of goes around the hole."

England's Jordan Smith returned after a tied-18th at Royal Birkdale, finishing level par after a rollercoaster round including a double bogey on the seventh. Live coverage continues on Sky Sports Golf.
