Nasa Hataoka and Thailand's Chanettee Wannasaen share the lead after the opening round of the LPGA Thailand tournament in Chonburi. Hataoka, the 2021 U.S. Women's Open runner-up, shot a 7-under 65 on the Siam Country Club Old Course to match Wannasaen's score.

Gemma Dryburgh sits one stroke back after opening with an eagle and three birdies for a 66. Top-ranked Atthaya Thitikul and Lydia Ko are among 10 players tied for sixth at 67. Defending champion Angel Yin carded a 69 in her title defense.

Hataoka, 27, credited her strong tee shots and iron play for creating multiple birdie opportunities. The tournament marks the first of three consecutive weeks in Asia for the LPGA Tour. Nelly Korda, fresh off her Tournament of Champions victory, is skipping this early Asian swing for the third consecutive year.
