Former U.S. Open champion Gary Woodland revealed he's been battling post-traumatic stress disorder following his 2023 brain surgery, telling Golf Channel he can no longer hide his struggles. The 41-year-old underwent surgery in September 2023 after doctors discovered a lesion pressing on his brain, which initially stopped his seizures but left him with ongoing symptoms.

Woodland said he was diagnosed with PTSD about a year ago and has been living with daily challenges while maintaining his PGA Tour schedule. During a Procore Championship event last fall, he experienced a severe episode where his vision blurred and he broke down crying on the fairway, unable to continue playing. He described hiding his emotions by wearing sunglasses and retreating to bathrooms to cry.

The PGA Tour has provided support through safety protocols and extra security when Woodland competes. Despite doctors suggesting he avoid stressful environments, Woodland remains committed to playing, telling Golf Channel that golf is his dream and he'll continue competing no matter how difficult it becomes.
