Former Cal State Bakersfield assistant basketball coach Kevin Mays, 33, was sentenced to four years in prison Thursday after pleading no-contest to charges of pimping, possessing child pornography, and drug possession while armed. He will also be registered as a sex offender for life.

Mays will receive credit for 660 days served, reducing his sentence. Judge Tiffany Organ-Bowles ordered him to pay restitution to a confidential victim. Mays' attorney stated his client accepted the plea deal to "restart his life" and expressed regret for tarnishing the Cal State program.

The investigation began after an anonymous tip to then-coach Rod Barnes alleged Mays had been trafficking a woman. Upon arrest, Mays faced numerous charges but initially pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors presented evidence of a prostitution operation spanning multiple states and found child pornography on Mays' phone, with videos dating between 2022 and 2024. Weapons and drugs were also discovered in his possession.
