Dosunmu inks five‑year, $112 M deal to stay with Wolves

Free‑agent guard Ayo Dosunmu plans to re‑sign with Minnesota on a five‑year $112 million contract that includes a player option for the fifth season, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania Monday night. The deal follows the Timberwolves’ trade of three‑time All‑Star Julius Randle to Brooklyn, prompting the club to secure Dosunmu long‑term after his strong postseason showing. The contract runs through 2031.

Dosunmu arrived from Chicago in February, a move that sent four second‑round picks and former lottery pick Rob Dillingham to the Bulls. He quickly built chemistry with fellow guard Anthony Edwards, averaging 15.6 points in 29.2 minutes across a ten‑game playoff stretch. In Game 4 of the first round, he poured in 43 points off the bench to fuel an upset over Denver.

Persistent right‑calf tightness sidelined Dosunmu for Game 6 against Denver and the opener versus San Antonio, and his second‑round output dipped to 9.4 points on 36% shooting over five games. By locking him up, Minnesota preserves a proven scorer and a backcourt partner for Anthony Edwards, cushioning the loss of Randle and stabilizing the roster for the upcoming season.
