Denny Hamlin Wins Las Vegas After Emotional Comeback

Denny Hamlin returned to victory lane at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, securing his first win since losing the NASCAR championship four months ago and his first since his father's death in a December house fire. The 45-year-old Virginia driver overcame an early speeding penalty to dominate the race, leading a race-high 134 laps in his Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota.

Hamlin's victory came exactly five months after his 60th career win at Las Vegas, which he dedicated to his father. That win had locked him into NASCAR's championship finale, where he dominated but lost the title due to a critical pit stop error. The emotional rollercoaster continued with Hamlin's involvement in 23XI Racing's federal lawsuit against NASCAR, followed by his father's death in a fire that destroyed the home Hamlin had purchased for his parents.

The win puts Hamlin back in the spotlight after much of the early-season attention focused on 23XI co-owner Michael Jordan and Tyler Reddick's record-setting start. Hamlin's teammate Christopher Bell and Ty Gibbs finished fourth and fifth, giving Joe Gibbs Racing three cars in the top five. Toyota has now won four of the first five races this season.
