He aggravated a previously torn labrum, which he had surgically repaired during the 2023-24 offseason. The incident occurred at his mother's home, where a December fire critically injured her and killed his father, Dennis Hamlin. The elder Hamlin passed away from injuries sustained in the fire. Mary Lou Hamlin, Denny's mother, is recovering and recently traveled to Florida to be with family. Hamlin, 45, was last season's Cup runner-up.
