American cyclist Brandon McNulty was involved in a pre-stage confrontation with a motorist on his way to the start of Stage 16 of the Tour de France. Mauro Gianetti, CEO of UAE Emirates XRG, reported that an angry driver overtook McNulty and then stopped, leading to a collision. McNulty, a teammate of overall race leader Tadej Pogačar, was reportedly unhurt.

The incident occurred before the 26.1-kilometer time trial. Pogačar held a significant lead over Remco Evenepoel before the stage, which followed Jonas Vingegaard's withdrawal due to a crash on Stage 15. The Tour de France is scheduled to conclude on July 26 in Paris.
