Matt Brennan claimed his first Grand Tour stage win on Sunday, sprinting to victory in the 214km second stage from Monaco to Manosque. The 21‑year‑old Briton, riding his debut Vuelta, seized the chance after teammate Wout van Aert was caught and race favourite Tadej Pogacar conserved energy. Brennan finished ahead of Pau Miquel Delgado (Bahrain Victorious) and Pogacar, who kept the red jersey after a narrow time‑trial lead.

The general classification now shows Pogacar leading van Aert by nine seconds, with Brennan third just ten seconds behind. Ethan Hayter, who earned bonus seconds in an early breakaway, fell to 13th, while Josh Tarling, still mourning his brother’s recent death, finished 125th. The race moves into the French Pyrenees on Monday with a mountain finish at Font Romeu.
