The Athletes Unlimited Softball League launches its second season riding unprecedented momentum after the Women's College World Series drew record audiences. Game 2 attracted 2.5 million viewers on ESPN with a peak of 3 million, making it the most-watched softball game ever and signaling strong fan interest for the professional ranks.

Commissioner Kim Ng's league has expanded from four to six teams, with all franchises now assigned to cities. The Chicago Bandits, Texas Volts, Carolina Blaze, Oklahoma City Spark, Utah Talons and Portland Cascade will each play 25 regular season games through July 20. The championship series moves to ABC network television for Game 1, marking a significant milestone for professional softball exposure.

Top college talent enters the draft, led by Tennessee's Karlyn Pickens going No. 1 overall to the Blaze. She brings the fastest recorded pitch at 79.4 mph. UCLA's Megan Grant, selected sixth overall, hit a Division I record 42 home runs this past season. The talent influx follows 2025 award winners including MVP Erin Coffel (.410 batting average, 28 RBIs) and Pitcher of the Year Georgina Corrick (7-0 record, 2.08 ERA).

Major League Baseball's investment deepens with the Milwaukee Brewers becoming the first MLB club to directly invest in the AUSL. This partnership, along with Ryan Sanders Baseball backing, provides operational support and marketing visibility that could accelerate the league's mainstream breakthrough.
