Alabama's Bediako Appeals Court Ruling on Eligibility

Alabama center Charles Bediako has asked the Alabama Supreme Court to grant him interim injunctive relief to play the remainder of the season after a circuit court judge ruled him ineligible. Bediako's attorneys filed the request Monday while appealing the judge's denial of a preliminary injunction that would have allowed him to continue playing.

Bediako, who starred for Alabama from 2021 to 2023, had signed multiple NBA contracts and played in the G League before returning to college basketball. A Tuscaloosa County Circuit Court judge initially granted him a temporary restraining order in January, a groundbreaking ruling that allowed him to play five games for the Crimson Tide. During that brief return, he averaged 10.0 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks.

The appeal argues that injunctive relief is necessary because the regular season ends March 7 and the NCAA tournament concludes April 6. Bediako has been helping the team as a scout player since the ruling. His legal team contends his professional experience is no different from former European pros who gained eligibility, and that he's missing out on NIL opportunities during the appeal process.
