Houston's Jose Altuve exited Tuesday's game after taking a pitch to his left foot. Bryce Harper is battling left knee soreness since moving back to right field for the first time in four years. The Athletics fear rookie first baseman Nick Kurtz could miss the rest of the season with a right thumb injury. Yankees Carlos Rodón is scheduled for a second minor league rehab start Thursday, while Cody Bellinger is also nearing a return. Blue Jays right-hander Trey Yesavage underwent left meniscus surgery but is not ruled out for the season, and the Marlins placed Kyle Stowers on the 10-day IL with a left hamstring strain. Several injured stars expected off the IL could prove as valuable as any trade deadline addition in the playoff races.

The Angels fired pitching coach Mike Maddux along with assistant Darryl Scott and bullpen coach Dom Chiti; the staff owns a 4.51 ERA and a majors-worst 508 walks. Bryse Wilson, designated for assignment on Saturday, signed a new one-year deal with the Brewers.

MLB announced the World Series schedule will begin Oct. 23, with a potential Game 7 on Oct. 31—marking only the second October finish since 2020.
