London-based autonomous vehicle startup Wayve has secured $60 million in fresh funding from AMD, Qualcomm, and Arm, marking a significant boost for its global expansion plans. The investment builds on Wayve's $1.2 billion Series D round in February, which included backing from Nvidia, SoftBank, and Microsoft. Founded in 2017, Wayve develops self-driving software for automakers and has recently partnered with Uber and Nissan to deploy robotaxis in Tokyo later this year.

Alex Kendall, Wayve's cofounder and CEO, emphasized the need for flexibility in automotive AI deployment across different computing architectures. The company's technology aims to work seamlessly with existing vehicle systems while supporting next-generation automated vehicles. This latest funding round demonstrates growing confidence in Wayve's approach to embodied AI and its potential to scale globally.

Wayve faces stiff competition in the autonomous vehicle space, including Google's Waymo in the US and Bolt's partnership with Chinese AI startup Pony AI. Despite this, the company's $8.6 billion valuation and backing from major investors like Eclipse, Balderton, and the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan position it well for future growth. With substantial capital reserves from multiple funding rounds, Wayve appears well-equipped to challenge established players in the race toward widespread autonomous vehicle deployment.
