Former Meta chief scientist Yann Le Cun has joined 224 Ventures, a new VC firm that will invest in AI startups.

224 Ventures will be run by Le Cun, alongside Google Deep Mind researcher Oriol Vinyals and AIX Ventures founder Shaun Johnson. The firm has $100m in assets under management and plans to write $1m‑$5m cheques for AI‑native teams. Its LP base is made up of 244 people, primarily AI operators. While the site does not specify a base location, its privacy policy references Californian laws.

This fund launches a month after Sifted reported that Le Cun had launched a new AI fund, Extelligence Invest. Documents described Le Cun as a non‑managing general partner. Le Cun’s spokesperson confirmed his involvement, but he later quit Extelligence after exclusivity relationships emerged. Extelligence cited “legal and contractual complications” concerning his involvement and called earlier reports “inaccurate” due to a miscommunication.

Le Cun is also an advisor to London‑based VC firm Hiro Capital. In a LinkedIn post, Johnson noted that Le Cun, Vinyals and Johnson will be “investing exclusively through 224.”
