Sopris Capital has completed its acquisition of Blackford, an Edinburgh-based AI development company, from Bayer. The AI orchestration platform, launched in 2016, provides radiology departments access to over 130 imaging AI applications from more than 45 vendor partners. Blackford will remain a separate legal entity operating in Scotland and the US, continuing to serve existing OEM partners and customer deployments without disruption.

Founded in 2010, Blackford pioneered the industry’s first AI orchestration platform, offering a vendor-neutral solution for integrating AI into medical imaging workflows. Sopris is now combining Blackford with its portfolio company Azra AI, a move expected to finalize within days. This integration positions Sopris to strengthen its healthcare technology portfolio focused on connected, longitudinal patient care, from initial imaging capture through analysis to survivorship support.

Managing partner Abinav Sankar stated, "Combining with Azra AI, we are positioning our portfolio to support patients from first scan through survivorship.".
